The New International Exhibition Center in Pudong Beginning Construction
On April 18th, Shanghai New International Exhibition Center broke earth in Huamu of Pudong. Zhou Yupeng, the vice-mayor of Shanghai, attended the ceremony for starting operation.
The item of Shanghai New International Exhibition Center is jointly invested and built and tended by Shanghai Pudong Land Development (Holding) Company and the German International Exhibition (Group) Company Ltd., and is designed by Murphy / Jahn, the famous American stylist. The total investment for the first phase of the project is about ninety-nine million US dollars. The area for exhibition is about sixty-five thousand square meters (including the outdoor exhibition area of twenty thousand square meters). The project will be finished at the end of July in 2001. After Shanghai New International Exhibition Center is built up, it will become the top-ranking exhibition center in the Asia-Pacific Region and will be able to satisfy the necessities of various kinds of exhibitions held by Shanghai, which will display the status and functions of Shanghai, the internationalized metropolitan.
